Trading Floor Salary and Bonuses: The Real Story

Working as a trader in an investment bank isn't what it used to be.

  • Total compensation has decreased substantially over the last 3 years: MDs were down 7.3% in 2013, and again -38% in 2014

  • Base salary flat-down: Between 2012 and 2013 base salary remained flat, but 2014 for MDs has seen them decrease by 12%

  • 2 difficult years for senior bankers: Bonuses were down 66% between 2012 and 2014

  • Junior Levels, bonus disappears: Analyst are down to zero bonus for 2014, and Associates have seen their own bonuses decrease from GBP24,000 to GBP15,000

Combination of dwindling revenue from market-based activities and bonus cap regulations for code staff has put senior bankers, bonuses under pressure, we are keeping a keen eye on this trend to see if a market recovery will lift bonuses once again.
