Kings of the Trading Floor:  Which is the Top Paying Financial Centre?

London pays its senior traders the most, and it is all about the bonus: MDs on London trading floors make nearly USD80,000 in variable pay in London than in Hong Kong.

But base salary is substantially higher in Hong Kong, which is a close second to London in terms of total compensation: on average 7.5% higher in Hong Kong than in London, and 44% higher in Hong Kong than in Paris

New York seems to lag when it comes to bonuses..! $652,000 in London vs. $447,000 in New York, which goes to show that London is pushing hard to attract top trading talent.

However, bonuses are proportionally higher in Paris! Bonuses in Paris represent x1.57 base salary vs x1.14 in New York, x1.40 in Hong Kong, and 1.7x in London, which is well within the 2x bonus cap EU rules across all locations.

Bonuses for code staff in London are likely to be under pressure in the coming years, with CDR IV coming into play shortly. It will be interesting to see if HongKong and New York take this opportunity to make up some of the current pay gap.

CitiesBase SalaryBonus
Paris$232,000$365,000
New York$393,000$447,000
Hong Kong$413,000$578,000
London$382,000$652,000
